The Mozambique Transmission Company (MOTRACO) was founded in 1998 as a joint venture between the three companies of electricity from Mozambique , South Africa and Eswatini in particular , Mozambique Electricity (EDM) , Eskom Holdings Limited (Eskom) and Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC).

History od MOTRACO

1992 August The SADC Treaty is signed;

1992 October Peace is achieved in Mozambique and democratic elections are held in the same year;

1995 August SADC sign Memorandum Inter_Governamental ( IGMOU ) that results in the establishment Shouthern African Power Poll ( SAPP);

1997 January Governments of Mozambique and South Africa signed a IGMOU for the development of hydro-electric potential and its high-voltage transmission lines in Mozambique;

1997 March The Government of Mozambique and Alusaf sign a Memorandum of Understandings for the establishment of an aluminum plant in Mozambique;

1997 June An electricity tariff for the Mozal was agreed . However, the power supply to Mozal could not be carried out by Eskom (legislation problems) or EDM ( underflow ) . A company with especias purposes had to be created to solve this problem;

1998 March the Government of Mozambique approved the Motraco project with some tax benefits;

1998 October Motraco is incorporated with three shareholders EDM , Eskom and EEC , each maintaining the same quota in the Joint Venture.

What We Do


We are a real and living model of regional cooperation and partnerships between public and private sectors for economic development through the energy sector, the following approaches:

 

Purchase, sale and transport of Electricity

We operate on the purchase of energy to Eskom of South Africa, for sale to the Mozal aluminum smelter in Mozambique. We also transport electricity from Eskom for EDM and EEC. Our activities are supported by an infrastructure made ​​up of two 400 kV substations and transmission lihas 132 and 400 kV, owned by MOTRACO, whose operation and MAINTENANCE are also guaranteed by us.

 

Digital telecommunications

We own , operate and manutemos cross-border infrastructure of high-speed digital telecommunications, which serves Mozambique, Eswatini and South Africa. 

 

Environment

Motraco supports initiatives to protect the environment.

MOTRACO takes a conciliation posture being economic development and social responsbilidade , materialized in several projects that reflect our conscious and continuous attention to people , to communities.

Comemoração dos 17 anos da MOTRACO

Criada no dia 16 de Outubro de 1998 com o objectivo de financiar, construir, operar e manter o sistema eléctrico de transporte de energia a partir da rede da Eskom para a MOZAL, a MOTRACO, SARL transporta também energia do sistema da Eskom para a Suazilândia e para a Electricidade de Moçambique.
